Fire-resistant glass makes it possible to create fire compartments without boarding up a building. Stairwells, office partitions and escape routes stay light and clear, while fire and smoke cannot spread unhindered.
We supply and install bespoke fire-resistant glass: fire-resistant glazed partitions, screens, internal glazing, glass doors and fire-resistant roof windows. Every pane is made to measure for your situation, with an EI classification (integrity and thermal insulation) of 30 or 60 minutes. Smoke resistance is a separate performance, which we substantiate separately where needed.
If you are an architect or adviser working on a design, we are happy to help at the design stage. The classification of fire-resistant glazing applies within its field of application: the tested combination of glass, frame profile, glazing gaskets and fixing, with the permitted dimensions. Establishing this early prevents an attractive detail from later proving impossible to certify.

Fire-resistant glass is priced per m2 and depends heavily on the classification (EI 30 or EI 60), the dimensions of the panels, the frame system, and whether the existing frame can remain in place. Large, divisible panels and standard sizes are more cost-effective than custom on-site work. We quote inclusive of frame, glazing, and installation.
Common mistakes
- Installing fire-resistant glass in a frame system that falls outside the classification's field of application.
- Replacing glazing seals and hardware with non-certified parts during later maintenance.
- Assuming that fire-resistant glass is also smoke-resistant or burglar-resistant without explicitly specifying this.

Questions about fire-resistant glass
The number is the number of minutes the pane remains flame-tight (E) and thermally insulating (I). Which classification is needed follows from the requirement for the separation and the assessment criteria that go with it, not from a rule of thumb or a preference. EI 30 is, for example, common in office partitions and corridor walls, EI 60 in separations with a heavier requirement, such as some stairwells.
Yes, every pane is produced to measure. Each system does, however, have a maximum size for which the classification has been tested; large panes are therefore sometimes divided by a mullion. Standard sizes and divisible panes are considerably cheaper than bespoke work on site.
Yes, there are certified combinations that offer both fire resistance and thermal insulation.
Often yes, depending on the existing frame system - this is assessed during the inspection.
Not automatically. Fire resistance, burglar resistance and sound insulation are separate properties with their own classifications. Combination products exist, but they must be specified explicitly - do not assume that fire-resistant glass brings the other properties with it.
